Originally from Hamilton Ontario, I now live in Coquitlam, B.C. (since early 2008). Between here and there, I had moved to Vancouver in 2005, after spending about 23 years on southern Vancouver Island off the west coast of British Columbia Canada. Moving to Vancouver, from a small town to a big city, took time to adjust, but my cats settled in so all is well;) I hope to find time to explore more of the vast wilderness and nature areas around south western B.C.
As diverse as they are, my two favorite passtimes are hiking the local trails and rivers, and writing BASH Shell Scripts to do anything I can dream up.
Update: November 2009
I'm really enjoying living in Coquitlam.
There are hundreds of challenging hiking trails just minutes from my place. They are scattered with breath taking views and amazing lookouts. I even had to reorganize my photo area to accommodate the growing hiking and viewpoint pics, although I don't actually take that many pictures. It's getting colder out now and the winter rains are here at low elevations, snow starting to show up in the mountains. We'll see how far into the season my new hat and gloves will get me.
Hiking and tracking my trips on my new GPS has lead the way to my latest hobby, creating my own digital topographical maps. More realistically it has shown me that I have a lot to learn on the subject, but it is fun all the same.
I've needed something a bit better suited for camping and generally getting to remote areas. Late this month I finally traded in my sporty little '07 Mazda 3 for an '09 Suzuki Grand Vitara, 4 cylinder 5 speed. Should be lots of fun;)
